Moody’s Lady Blue Devils are still three weeks away from their home opener, but coach Raphael Greaux has high expectations for this year’s varsity players.
“I’m very excited by what I saw during our summer workouts,” he said. “This year’s seniors have been playing for me since they were eighth graders, so they know the routine and how our offense and defense works, and it’s a joy working with all of them. They work extremely hard.”
Moody hosts Leeds, Lincoln, and Anniston Sept. 4 in the final home opener of the six seniors’ prep careers. The team finished second in area standing last year, advancing to the Super Regional tournament, and has qualified for the Class 5A playoffs during seven of the past eight seasons.
“This group of seniors is probably the winningest group of seniors we’ve ever had,” Greaux said. “They have won 100 ball games in three years, and this season’s wins will be added to that. That’s why I have high expectations for them, and these girls play hard to meet them. They also do a good job in the classroom, and I’m a firm believer that academics and sports go together.”
