Emily Church

Catcher

Grade:  Junior.

Parents:  April St. John and Curtis Church.

Other varsity sports:  Basketball and volleyball.  “It’s hard to choose my favorite.  It would be between basketball and softball.”

Her history with softball:  She’s played the sport since she was 7 and has been a member of Ragland’s varsity team for five years while playing with the Birmingham Bandits travel team.

About being named to the AHSAA North All-Star Team:  “I was really excited when Coach Nix told me.  The first thing I wanted to know when I found out was, ‘Did Sommar (Wright) or Madison (Oliver) make it?’  I’ve played with eight of the 13 girls on the North team, and I’m one of only four representing Classes 1A-3A, so I was really shocked to be chosen.”

About the All-Star game:  “I’m really pumped about it.  A lot of people will be there watching, and I’m excited about going down and playing like I did at state and representing my school.”

Her thoughts on the current softball season:  “We started out a little bad.  Five of us starters were still upset from basketball, and we didn’t have a week to get over it before we started softball.  It seemed like everybody kept bringing up something about basketball, and we kept having flashbacks to losing by two points after we’d made history in basketball at Ragland.  It was tough, but now we’re starting to click like we did last year.  Things are falling into place.”
