PCBOE recognizes achievements

At Tuesday night’s board meeting, the Pell City Board of Education made several recognitions for achievements throughout the Pell City School System.
-Walter M. Kennedy Elementary School expressed that gratitude and recognized Benjamin Moore Corp. for donating 65 gallons of premium paint to refresh hallways, the library and the office at the elementary school.
-The board congratulated the PCHS and Duran Jr. High Cheerleaders, who attended UCA Cheer Camp at UAB. The competition awards are as follows: PCHS All-American Cheerleader: Lauren Luker; Lyric O’Neal; Ryan Monistere; Abby Jones; Marti Rodda; Tameron Williams; and Layne Monistere – UCA staff member tryout invitation: Marti Rodda – Team Awards: Day 1-Banana Spirit Award; 3rd place-Extreme Routine; 2nd place-Cheer Competition; 1st place-Sideline Cheer; and1st Place-Game Day Competition/Camp Champ Leadership Award – Duran All-American Cheerleader: Savannah Mock – Pin it Forward Award: Savannah Mock – Team Awards: 4th place-Game Day Competition; 2nd Place-Sideline Cheer.
-The board also extended recognition to Tanya Holcombe for being awarded the Certified Administrator of School Fitness and Operations (SFO) certification by the Association of School Business Official International. The SFO certification is granted to highly qualified individuals who fulfill multiple requirements, including eligibility, passing a comprehensive two-part exam that tests competency in account and school business management topics and adhering to the ASBO International Certification Code of Conduct. Tanya is only the third CSFO in the state to earn this certification.
In other news:
– The PCBOE approved to accept the quote for carpet, VCT, rubber base and LVT for the new central office building.
– The board approved the Bring Your Own Device Policy (BYODP) as well as the Restraint and Seclusion Policy.
– Also approved was the 2014-2015 Student Rights & Responsibilities/Code of Conduct.
– Superintendent Dr. Michael Barber gave a report: He reported that there have been pre-construction meetings and/or bid openings on the new Central Office and the CEPA Shelter. He also discussed the improvements to the baseball complex, CEPA parking and other projects, which will be done with the help of the County Commission and Pell City.
Dr Barber talked about the two-week in-service training that Dr. Williams is currently conducting for various faculty and administrators. He also invited anyone who is interested to call for a visit to see the progress of the new Central Office, which should be ready to move into some time next month.
