Seddon Baptist Church: “Letting the Church Rise”

The Seddon Baptist Church family is proud to announce that starting on June 1 they will be holding worship at their new location, 4205 Cogswell Avenue in Pell City.
The new home for Seddon is found in what used to be 84 Lumber. Pastor Dale Foote thinks that parts of the transition from lumber to church are laughable, as he told how one of the buildings use to have pigeons in it. “What used to be a place for pigeons, is now going to be a house of God,” said Foote.
Foote and his church family decided to transition from their current location at Hardwick Road about a year ago when they decided that the church had outgrown its building. That is when Seddon purchased the 84 Lumber building. Renovations on the building started in January, and the church will soon complete phase one of a two-phase building process.
The church is excited to see their membership grow and ultimately move into their phase two worship center, which will hold at least 800 people.
According to associate pastor Joseph Morris, the church is not currently serving that amount of members. However, the church moves ahead with construction because they know the members will come. “God is able,” said Morris. He also pointed out that this saying is a theme throughout Seddon, with a family who is alive and excited to see just how able God is.
The people in this church family are no strangers to God’s abilities. As pastor for 19 years, Foote was at the church in 1995 when only seven people attended and 10 months later when the church building at Hardwick burned down. Foote said that the church was rebuilt with about 25 members. “Here I am building again,” said Foote, “The first time out of tragedy and second time out of triumph.”
Because of all that the church has been through, the choir has adopted a song, “Let the Church Rise.”  “It has set the tone for what this church has been through. We’re literally seeing the church rise from ashes,” said Foote.
As Seddon Baptist Church rises in its new location, phase one will develop education classrooms and administration rooms, and worship will be housed in what will become the family life center. Phase two will welcome the new worship center, a second level, a bigger nursery and the children church’s movement to the life center.
Seddon Baptist Church has adopted a new mission with its move, “Love God. Love people. Make disciples.” All wanting to visit or to become an active part of this mission, can visit Seddon at its new location at 9 a.m. for community groups and 10 a.m. for worship.
