Local speeding issues discussed at Moody’s council meeting

Home owners’ association president Pat Gann addressed the Moody City Council Monday night about speeding issues throughout the Windsor Park subdivision.
Asking the council to consider placing speed humps in the subdivision, Moody city attorney James Hill will meet with the city engineer to discuss safety issues before moving forward.
Items approved:
* Councilman Jeff Green asked the council to update a computer system in the City Clerk’s office.
“We need to replace this and get a new version of Microsoft Office that can handle the ability to work with multiple spreadsheets at a time,” said Green.
The item approved will not exceed $1,000.
* The city’s email account will now be hosted by SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and Pop (Post Office Protocol) access which provides their email to have unlimited information in their mailbox.
Tax dollars at work:
* Police Chief Thomas Hunt was approved to send DARE officer Heather Shaddix to attend the TASRO conference in Gulf Shores. The cost will not exceed $1,000 and is a budgeted item.
Chief Hunt was also approved to renew the annual contract with Southern Software, which maintains the police reports for the city. The cost is $2,144.
* Fire Chief Wayne Taylor received approval for two cars to receive tires for a total of $1,007.20 and air control value parts/labor for another car for a total of $550.
* Steve Mitchell was approved to purchase $260 to purchase two rain suits for two new employees, $850 for Bush Hog repairs and $700 to purchase asphalt for road repair patches.
* City Clerk Tracy Patterson received approval to register the cities Dun and Bradstreet DUNS numbers with the U.S. System for Awards Management (SAM) at a one time fee of $599.
“There are seven throughout the city,” said Patterson.
Mayor Lee was approved to award Moody High School scholarships for a total of $800.
The valedictorian will receive $250, $250 for salutatorian, Fire King will be awarded $100 as well as the Fire Queen and $100 for the Keith Turner Memorial.
Moody City Council meetings are the second and fourth Thursdays at 6 p.m. at Moody City Hall located at 670 Park Avenue.
