Styles Make Smiles for Sweethearts held its second event for women diagnosed with cancer and survivors on Valentine’s Day.
This event, sponsored by Lakeside Hospice and Primp and Paint salon in Pell City, gives those with cancer a day to relax and be pampered. The ladies received everything from massages to nails and hair and makeup as well as gifts.
Teresa Carden with Lakeside and her niece, Lauren Isbell with Primp and Paint, teamed up last year to create an event for those who currently have or have had cancer in the past. Carden said this day is dedicated entirely to the strong ladies battling cancer and to those who have won the fight. She said that she hopes that Styles Make Smiles will help to make each lady feel special.
“We just realized that they might not always feel well,” said Carden. “We help them and hopefully take the hassle out of getting ready.”
The event, according to Carden, was held on Valentine’s Day because a lot of women will go out on special dates with their significant other or friends. A lot of work and donations went into making all ten ladies who signed up for the day feel special. Carden said that she wants to thank everyone who played a part.
Twenty-five gift cards were donated, and every woman received a gift bag. Mary Kay consultant Karen Sullivan and Mary Chappell helped with the glamour side of the event. Graham and Sons Tshirts donated t-shirts for the day, and Amy Graham, owner of Primp and Paint donated her salon for the day. Ginger Gover provided massages, and Peggy Fraiser made scarves.
Camelot Limo also had a drawing for a limo ride for the night. All the ladies received Dancing with the Stars (Pell City) tickets as well. And Carden extended a special thank you to community churches that helped with gift cards. The event was a great success, and Carden said that there are plans to hold a third annual Styles Make Smiles in 2015.
