With an eye for art and a love for teaching, Ami Benefield Brewster has started her holiday art classes for this holiday season. Painting, cookies and story time take up the few hours that children spend at Ami’s holiday art classes. But adults can join in on the fun as well when Amy hosts her classes that will have adult-level holiday paintings.
Brewster’s classes are held at Ami’s Arts and Crafts & Catering Store located at 96 Cogswell Avenue in Eden.  She said her parent’s own the shop, and she just adopted a section in the back for her art classes about two years ago. Brewster said she learned how to do the paintings through her studies of art in college. She loves to teach the skill and adjusts the difficulty level to the age of her students.
For those interested in becoming one of Brewster’s pupils, the classes are usually held on Saturday mornings. Brewster asks that reservations be made two weeks in advance.
All children’s classes start with a painting and are followed with a story about the painting as the kids sit around the Christmas tree eating freshly baked cookies and sipping hot chocolate.
“It’s just a good way for kids to make Christmas memories and make gifts for loved ones,” said Brewster.
Brewster also holds classes for adults at the store on Cogswell. The store can also be used for parties and events. Brewster also travels to homes and churches for private events. Classes for adults can be held at night.
Some other services provided by Ami’s Arts and Crafts and Catering include piano lessons, modeling lessons and cupcake and cake decorating classes. Also available are holiday crafts, freshly baked goods and gift baskets. Call 205-401-6142 for more information.
Brewster can be contacted at abrewster164@gmail.com or 205-401-6134 for more information about painting classes. She will be hosting two classes on Dec. 14 and Dec.21 at 10 AM and 1:30 PM.
Brewster invites everyone in the community to come out and enjoy a positive and encouraging environment. She said she appreciates the dedication of the community and her repeat art students, but hopes to be able to share her class and this environment with others as well.
“These classes are creative outlets that create memories,” said Brewster “They help fill my heart with joy as I help teach others.”
