Pell City Police Sergeants Don Newton and Vince Warrington recently attended the 25th annual Southeastern Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (SLEDS) in Florence, Ala.
The week long SLEDS training is a program of intensive leadership training for officers in law enforcement management positions.  Course curriculum ranged from “Leadership in a Crisis” and “Rapport and Trust Building for Leaders” to “Domestic Terrorism” and “Budgeting.”
SLEDS is a Command College style leadership program designed by the FBI.  The SLEDS program is sponsored and facilitated by the FBI’s Birmingham and Mobile offices and the Florence, Ala. police department. Instructors included internationally recognized FBI agents, police chiefs and college professors.
Pell City Police Chief Greg Turley, a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy and SLEDS Academy, said he is “pleased that we were able to provide this level of training for our department’s supervisors. We’ve been able to send several to this outstanding training over the last few years. I hope that federal budget restrictions will not impact the future of this excellent program.”
Sergeant Newton said, “While the course was intense and challenging, it was also energizing. I came back to Pell City with a new enthusiasm for police work. It is definitely the best training program that I have been able to attend”.
