Artist reception for Leeds Theater and Arts center

Published 8:23 am Friday, August 2, 2013

The opening reception for the Leeds Arts Council’s August artist, Joe Quezada, will be Sunday, August 4 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The reception will be held in the gallery of the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center, 8140 Parkway Drive, in downtown Leeds.

The public is invited to come and meet the artist.  There is no charge; however, his beautiful work will be available for purchase.

As a self-taught artist, Joe has used his occupational background to get involved in the arts.  He spent 40 years in the graphics design field designing and fabricating specialty graphics for the major retail and convention industry.

This allowed him to learn many forms of the art field.  Stained glass and glass jewelry, etched and sandblasted graphics on doors and showers, and mold-making were his favorites.

After the artist’s children grew up, he had more time for hobbies and began developing an idea that he had had for years:  working in a process called Mud Artz.  This process uses a conventional construction joint compound, also known as drywall (Mud).  It has taken him about 20 years, off and on, to develop this art form.  He is now pleased to share this interesting technique with the public.

Joe describes the process as a mixed media primitive form of art that has very few limitations.
