Bringing children throughout the community together through the love of reading, Leeds Jane Culbreth Library hosts Tot Time every first and third Tuesday of each month.

Allowing young minds to go on great adventures, Ramona Jett, Circulation Manager for Leeds Library, creates fun activities for pre-school aged children while reading to her favorite tots.

Christine Womack, mom to one-year-old daughter Emma, says she loves bringing her to Tot Time for the social interaction and music.

The Miller family, Lily-five, twins Lincoln and Marian-three and two-month-old Annie enjoy time well spent with their mom, Kelly.

“I like princess books,” said Lily.

While Marian said she her favorites are books about Minnie Mouse.

Cousins Helena Hatcher- six, and Kayla McCall-three-and-a-half-year-old, love coming to the library because they get to do one of their favorite things—read.

“I like reading The Little Mermaid,” Hatcher said.

“I like Olivia and the Lost Toy,” said McCall.

The activity they are sure to never be late for is the scarves and beanbags time.

“We make sure we get here on time so we don’t miss that,” said McCall.

Although all attendees agree, Tot Time is so much fun, parents believe it’s also beneficial.

Mother of three-year-old Paul Headley said hearing the stories and songs has really helped him open up.

Jett agrees with Headley’s mom and says Tot Time is a stepping-stone in child development.

“We’re planting the seed for literacy and love of books,” said Jett. “When we play music we’re incorporating movement and stimulation.”

Honored to have the opportunity to mold these young minds Jett says she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“It’s a whole lot of fun,” said Jett. “I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s the best part of my job.”Join Jett
