Over the last three years the City of Leeds has provided the Jefferson, Blount and St. Clair Mental Health Authority $1,200 per year in assistance.
With the economic climate still in a financial pinch, Crego asked the council to approve $1,500 this year.
Letting the council know how the funds are allocated, Crego said the Jefferson, Blount and St. Clair Mental Health Authority offers a wide range of services to adults and children. They have teams who work with families and offer mental health services for adults who need constant care.
District 1 councilman Kenneth Washington asked how many Leeds residents the Mental Health Authority serviced, and Crego replied 324 during the last fiscal year.
“Y’all do a good job,” said Washington. “I’m very much in support of what y’all do.”
Crego’s request was approved.
“This city has been generous over the last three years,” said Crego. “Thank you.”
Council also approved:
* Three police vehicles and three fire department vehicles are surplus and will be auctioned off.
* Authorizing services for an indoor air quality consultant to complete the project of alleviating the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library’s mold situation.
George Keating, Supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department as well as Streets and Sanitation wanted citizens to know the Leeds Recycle Center is now accepting glass.
Leeds Recycle Center, located at 8475 1st Avenue, also takes plastics, paper and cardboard. The center is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
