- Linda Winslett is all smiles as she poses with her 2013 Story Time graduates.
From late August to mid May, preschoolers from the Moody area and its neighboring communities join Miss Linda for story time.
Newborns to five-year-olds race to story time every Tuesday at 10 a.m. throughout the school year.
This year Linda Winslett, Assistant Library Director at Doris Stanley Memorial Library, has taken the children to visit our local heroes at the Moody fire and police departments, hosted the Preschool Olympics as well as taken “her kids” on numerous adventures with the stories she reads each week.
This Tuesday was no different.
Patsy Spradley, Library Director for Doris Stanley Memorial Library, counted approximately 50 people in attendance (parents and children) at their annual end of the year story time at the park.
Mike Staggs, Park and Recreation Director for the City of Moody, read to the children commemorating the fun year they’ve had.
Before reading “Goodnight Baseball,” by Michael Dahl, Staggs asked his captive crowd, “Why is it good to read?”
One response overheard was, “For cooking.”
Grateful for the honor to read to the children, Staggs concluded his time with them by saying, “It’s always a good day at the park.”
Miss Linda called on help from Spradley to read aloud “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn because it makes her cry.
“I can’t believe the year is over and now some of my boys and girls are headed off to big school,” said Winslett.
The parents and children feel the same way about Miss Linda.
One parents’ comment on the library’s Facebook page read, “You ladies do a great job and are appreciated.”
Another stated, “This is a great place to teach your children all about reading.”
With four graduating from Miss Linda’s Story Time and moving on to kindergarten, the Doris Stanley Memorial Library staff handed out certificates of graduation from library school and the book “God’s Wisdom for Little Girls,” and “God’s Wisdom for Little Boys.”
“We had a wonderful year,” said Winslett. “I encourage all of my Story Time boys and girls to sign up for Summer Read.”
Looking ahead to next year’s Story Time, Miss Linda says, “We’ll have new stories starting in August. Come join the fun.”
