St. Clair County tax dollars at work

On Tuesday, the St. Clair County Commission held their first regular meeting of the month, taking action on the following items:
—Approved a list of roads needing repair as part of the third round for the ATRIP funding program. Commissioners signed three letters of intent to obtain funding for these road improvements. Projects submitted for ATRIP funding total more than $26 million.
—Approved the request from the Town of Steele to allow the town to pay $20,000 toward the $84,177.74 owed to the county and then renewing the agreement for another three years, paying a minimum of $1,000 per year.
—Approved an agreement with the Town of Steele to work on Herb Collette Road at a total cost of $8,427.50, the county paying $3,487.50 and the Town of Steele paying $4,940.
—Approved a general fund budget amendment in the amount of $2,850.05 for software maintenance on the badging system for the EMA.
—Approved a $1,000 appropriation to the City of Springville for the city’s annual Spring Fest, set for May 18.
—Approved the request of Sheriff Terry Surles to advertise vacancies for two full time deputies and four occasional detention officers.
—Approved the request of Sheriff Terry Surles to increase the pay grade from 12 to 14 for two accounting clerks. The sheriff will pay the increase for 2013.
—Approved the request of Melinda Anthony for one additional occasional juvenile detention officer.
—Approved the recommendation of the county engineer that Darrell Smith fill the vacant road worker I position.
—Approved the recommendation of the county engineer for Michael Kitchens and Keith McCord to fill two vacant temporary operator positions.
