Vote for Rusty’s BBQ in Quest for the Best

Nestled in Leeds, a city that shows its wisdom at a ripe 126-years-old, Rusty’s BBQ is a relative newcomer.
Established in February of 2009, Rusty’s is known for its ribs and pulled pork, although, owner Jonathon “Rusty” Tucker says, “Everything is good or it wouldn’t be served.”
Rusty’s BBQ will be put to the test in The Alabama BBQ Bracket Quest for the Best, held by The Year of Alabama Food.
Set up to coincide with March Madness, the quest began with 32 BBQ joints across the state divided into four areas – North, Central, South and the Gulf Coast – and will end with one restaurant declared as having the best BBQ in Alabama.
“We were nominated by The Year of Alabama Food. It was a great honor to be sought out,” Tucker said.
The competition includes such BBQ giants as Full Moon, Golden Rule, Jim ‘N Nick’s and Dreamland.
“I feel like this is the story of David and Goliath. Here we are in Leeds with one location, while Jim ‘N Nick’s is known across the country. It will be a tough fight,” but Rusty hasn’t lost hope. “No one is in the competition that doesn’t deserve to be.”
Rusty’s BBQ is the only entry for Central Alabama that is not in the Birmingham or Tuscaloosa area.
“Winning this could bring a sense of pride and community for the entire City of Leeds and around this area. I feel like we are the underdog, but we’re also the best.”
The voting for Rusty’s BBQ has already opened on Facebook and will close Saturday morning around 10 a.m.
