Getting into spirit of giving

- Area educators lent their voices to sing “The Christmas Song.”
Celebrity waiters, musical sing-a-longs and bidding wars were all a part of this year’s Toys for Kids luncheon.
Moody mayor Joe Lee, Moody BancorpSouth Branch Manager Nancy Johnson, local realtor Larry Golden, Bill Morris with Leeds Water Works and many more served lunch for tips donated for local children to receive gifts on Christmas morning.
“Thank you for being here,” said Lee. “The money raised today all goes to help our children here in Moody.”
Auctioning off items such as George Foreman grills, framed football artwork and homemade cakes made by Moody Fire Chief Joe Nobles and his wife as well as Odenville City Inspector Greg Bratcher; the quest was on to raise a big amount.
Terry Green paid $100 to hear area schoolteachers, principals and educators sing “The Christmas Song.”
“This is the best hundred dollars Terry Green’s every spent,” joked Greg Cobb.
Lyman Lovejoy delivered $200 for Randy Smith of Smith Printing to sing “White Christmas.”
“It’s for a great cause,” said Lovejoy.
“We do this out of love to raise money for the kids,” said Smith.
After several songs were sung Lee announced that one of the Toys for Kids favorite invitees, Red Diamond donated $3,000.
Commended for his serving abilities Moody city councilman Lynn Taylor was named “Best Server.”
Raising approximately $11,000 (an all time high), 61 kids in the Moody area will now have Christmas provided for them.
“This is remarkable,” said Taylor. “I hope this helps them have a very Merry Christmas this year.”
