The City of Springville, the St. Clair County Commission and the Forever Wild program are joining forces to bring a nature preserve to Springville.

Forever Wild is looking to acquire 382 acres of land along Big Canoe Creek across from Homestead Hollow.

At Tuesday’s St. Clair County Commission meeting, the commission committed $150,000 over a two-year period to acquiring land for the project pending approval from the Forever Wild Board of Directors.

“We have commitment from the city,” Springville Mayor Butch Isley said.  “It would be a jewel not just for the city but for county as well.”

It is estimated the City of Springville will invest $150,000.  The city has already pledged $50,000 and has agreed to be responsible for day-to-day operations, maintaining restroom facility, parking lots and lights.

“It would bring in $1-2 million in revenue,” Wendy Jackson of Forever Wild said.  “It is a very cost-effective way to invest in amenities for the City of Springville.  The property has so much future potential for Springville, and it really helps that people of been such good stewards of the land.”

Possible land uses include hiking trails, a horse trail and an archery course.

Forever Wild will hold their next meeting today at 10 a.m. at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds.
