The Leeds Arts Council will hold an opening reception for artist Brian Bohanan whose paintings will be on exhibit in LAC’s gallery throughout December.  The gallery is located in the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center, 8140 Parkway Drive, downtown Leeds.  The reception is from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There is no charge; however, the paintings will be available for purchase.

Bohanan is a self-taught folk artist.  He explores several different mediums including incorporating recycled and found objects into his artwork such as reclaimed hardwood flooring, tin roofing, old decorative tile pieces and antique cabinetry. In his painting process he utilizes oil, acrylics and house paint.   His subjects vary but often include winter scenes and churches.

Due to his recent success at the Slotin Folk Fest, the artist was written up in the Main Antique Digest as one of the possible masters of the future of folk art.  He has won awards at several shows throughout the southeast including Fayette, Prattville and Lake Guntersville.

The Leeds Arts Council’s Christmas Homes Tour will also be December 2.  Homes will be open from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m..  Tickets and maps are available at the arts center so plan to come meet the artist, enjoy the exhibit and then proceed to tour beautifully decorated homes.

For more information regarding the reception, exhibit, and Christmas Homes Tour, call the arts center at 699-1892 or go to the website www.leedsartscouncil.org.  The arts center is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  During the holidays and in case of inclement weather, call ahead.
