An appreciation luncheon was held for Sarah Butterworth, coordinator for the Middle Coosa River Watershed Project on Tuesday.

Butterworth will be leaving the St. Clair County Soil and Water Conservation District (SCSWCD) now that her projects are complete.

“It has been a privilege to work for the district,” Butterworth said.  “I have been lucky to work for them.”

Butterworth worked for the SCSWCD for six years two three-year grant fund projects.  The projects were funded through the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).

“I had the opportunity to work on projects for different people, land and homeowners to implement projects on their properties to impact the Coosa River.”

Butterworth also worked on a septic tank pump program designed to help people maintain their septic tank systems and provide educational programming.

“If there are maintenance problems with septic tanks, that affects the water quality and the environment,” Butterworth said.

Butterworth is now looking for a new job, but says the experience of working with the SCSWCD has been a blessing.

“The SCSWCD is so unique because it is made up of a board of volunteers, and it provides a local avenue for federal agencies to work in the county,” Butterworth said.
