Ashville in 3A top 10, wins area title

Ashville’s Lady Bulldogs defeated St. Clair and Glencoe Tuesday, clinching the regular season area title. Ranked 10th in the state, Ashville will host the Class 3A Area 9 tournament on Oct. 18.
The Lady Bulldogs (22-4) are also seeded first in the St. Clair County Volleyball Tournament, to be hosted Saturday by the Saint Clair Lady Saints.
Autumn Swearengin had 11 kills, one block and two aces Tuesday as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Saints (25-11, 25-17).
Also scoring for Ashville were Mollie Huff (three kills, five aces, six digs), Alicia Heath (four aces, 12 assists), Taylor Tucker (two aces, two kills, four digs), Nikki Moss (one ace, four kills, two digs) and Marrin Cater (one kill, five assists).
The Lady Bulldogs won two out of three matches in their region win against Glencoe (25-20, 25-18 and 25-19). Stats leaders were Swearengin (12 kills, two blocks, three aces, five digs), Huff (five aces, seven kills, nine digs), Heath (two aces, two kills, 21 assists), Moss (two aces, nine kills, one block), Tucker (two aces, four kills, six digs) and Carter (eight assists, two digs).
Moody’s Lady Blue Devils, seeded third in the county tournament, improved to 11-13 on the season with wins this week against Chelsea and Shelby County.
Faith Webb had six digs against Chelsea and seven assists against Shelby. Alexus Martin had eight kills in that game, and Taylor Wagnon had eight assists. Makenzie Banks had six digs
