Joe Lee, current mayor of Moody, has announced his candidacy for reelection.  Lee has served the city of Moody since 1992 when he was elected to the city council. In 2003, he was appointed to fill the vacated mayor’s position and was subsequently elected to serve two more terms as mayor.  Under Lee’s leadership, Moody has grown from a small sleepy community to a vibrant, yet friendly, small town that offers a full range of city services access to large city amenities.
During his twenty years in public office, Lee has been instrumental in the tremendous growth and changes that the city has experienced.  “I feel like my extensive experience in working with both residential and commercial developers is a vital factor in continuing to bring new businesses to Moody.  We are working closely with the Moody Commercial Development Authority and the St Clair County Economic Development Council on a number of projects at this time.  It is my hope and desire to see those projects through to completion.”
Lee is interested not only in responsible commercial growth, but also wants to insure that Moody’s citizens have access to the public services that they deserve.  During Lee’s tenure, he has guided the expansion of the Moody City Park and Recreation Facility with the construction and upgrading of the baseball, soccer and football fields as well as walking track and tennis courts.  He was also instrumental in the construction of the city’s municipal complex.  A new two-story city hall was built and the police and fire department buildings as well as the public works facility were remodeled and upgraded.
“I am thrilled to announce the planned construction of a new Pedestrian Walk/Bike Trail along the Little Cahaba River.  This has been in the works for quite a while and upon completion of the revitalization of the Little Cahaba River waterway through Moody, the past flooding issues have been alleviated and further development of that area can proceed.  Our staff applied for and received federal grant approval, which will provide an 80/20 funding match.  We should begin construction this fall.”
“Moody’s public services have grown tremendously in these past 20 years and we continue to increase and upgrade the ervices provided,” Lee said. “We have recently added eight new police cars to our fleet, replacing several old and worn out cars.  We are also upgrading our Fire Department and Paramedic vehicles and gear needed to protect our personnel as they respond to emergencies.  This is an ongoing need and we have been able to meet that need through efficient budgetary management and supervision.  Our employees work hard at their jobs and strive to provide an excellent level of services this community needs and deserves.”
“I am proud to call Moody home and know that it is a great place to live, work and raise a family. It is my goal to continue working hard for the citizens of Moody.  Our city’s motto is ‘Pursuing the Future Today’ and my promise is to continue making that my focus for our great city.  My door is always open and I will always answer your questions honestly and in a timely manner.”
