St. Clair fourth grade coloring contest winners awarded

Recently the United Daughters of the Confederacy Ashville Chapter #1488 named the winners of it’s annual Fourth Grade Coloring Contest. Ten schools participated including Ashville Elementary, Eden Elementary, Moody Middle, Odenville Intermediate, Ragland Elementary, Springville Elementary, Steele Junior High, Walter M. Kennedy Elementary, Coosa Valley Elementary.

Four winners from each school received certificates and Alabama flags (provided by the UDC) prize money (provided by the Sons of Confederate Veterans St. Clair Camp #308) and t-shirts (provided by the Alabama Division SCV).

Grand prize winners were: First Place—Madeline Stewart from Kennedy ($15), Second Place—Skylar Glass from Steele ($10), Third Place—Allison Roberson from Moody ($7), and Honorable Mention—Max Pruitt from Kennedy ($5)

These four coloring contest papers were sent on to the state level of the UDC for further judging.

UDC members Thelma Watkins and Jeannette Taylor, and SCV members Ben Hestley, Bill WATKINS, Tommy Vaughan, and Dan Williams visited the 4th grade classes and presented the awards and a short program on Confederate history. The SCV also presented a Confederate History and Heritage Month poster to every 4th grade teacher. All 4th grade students received reproduction Confederate money.

Ashville:
