Hot fun in the summer time is what’s in store for those participating in Leeds Summer Camp.
A free camp started three years ago, Leeds Summer Camp offers youth the opportunity to discover new activities to enhance their quality of life.
“We wanted to provide these children an outlet to enrich their lives with positive activities during the summer months,” said Camp Director Shirley Rayford.
Hosted at The Robert R. Moton Community Center, children between the ages of six and 16 are encouraged to register for this year’s Leeds Summer Camp.
The camp runs from June 4 to June 29 from 8 a.m. — 3 p.m.
Honored to be able to provide this service to the community, Rayford and her crew rely on friends, family, neighbors and other Leeds citizens to make things happen.
“Our summer camp is operated totally by donations and volunteers,” said Rayford.
Receiving assistance from such entities as Leeds City Council enables Leeds Summer Camp to administer activities like dance, baseball, basketball, skating, arts, crafts, reading, swimming, bible study and spelling bee.
Registration is currently open. Forms are available at Moton Center located at 1721 Moton Street in Leeds. There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee per family. Each child must fill out a registration and medical form.
Leeds Summer Camp is also made possible through the efforts of Calvary-Leeds Empowered Action Revitalization Inc. (CLEAR INC.). Operated by a board of directors, headed by CEO Dr. Carl H. Marbury and Associate CEO Charcey Glenn.
Looking forward to enrolling an estimated 250 campers this summer, Leeds Summer Camp needs volunteers and can always put to use your donations.
Donations are accepted by mail at Leeds Summer Camp 2012, P.O. Box 52, Leeds, AL 35094.
“We are seeking your assistance on behalf of the youth in the Leeds community,” said Rayford.
