Ashville senior Alex Newton won the state Class 3A long jump title last weekend with a distance of 21’8”. Alex Mitchell of Leeds, not shown, was runner-up in the event. Newton also finished seventh in the high jump and 11th in the triple jump. At right is Miranda Greer, who finished third in the girls’ long jump with a distance of 15’10.75” and seventh in the triple jump.
