The Jones/Isbell family rally after the storm, maintaining a positive attitude as they begin to rebuild after the devastation of the winter tornado.

The Jones/Isbell family’s homes and vehicles were devastated by last Sunday’s tornado, but they are determined to not let that dampen their spirits.

Living at 1659 US Highway 11 for over 20 years, Wanda Isbell and her husband Harold, both 75-years-old were trapped under their home after Sunday’s tornado raged through Argo.

“After the storm was over I looked to see mama and daddy’s house, and it was gone,” said their daughter, Phyllis Jones.

Jones’ parents crawled out from the debris that they once called home to safety.

“They are tough. Luckily, it just wasn’t their time to go,” said Jones.

Jones, her husband and son rushed to their truck to head to better shelter down the road, but before they even made it out of the driveway, the tornado hit.

Describing the devastation, Jones said power lines were everywhere. “I don’t wish this on anybody and I hope we never have to go through it again.”

Her dad Harold said, “It was raining trees.”

Grateful to live in such a supportive county, Jones said, “People have just been stopping by to help. You just don’t know how many friends you’ve got until something like this happens.”

All members of their family survived, even their dogs. Wanda’s Chihuahua was buried under piles of rubble. When he was finally able to break free, he escaped without injury.

“Everybody is perfectly fine,” said Jones.

Making her rounds around the county, St. Clair County American Red Cross Executive Director Peggy Mann stopped by to check on the Jones/Isbell family.

“We’re here and ready to help. People are very resourceful, but we do have shelters in place,” said Mann. “We are happy to report there have been no fatalities in St. Clair County. If you need assistance, please let us know.”
