Lady Panthers hold off Leeds’ Lady Green Wave

The Pell City Lady Panthers scored the last four points of the game in what was a close contest throughout, holding off the Lady Green Wave 51 – 45. Leeds falls to 2 – 1 on the early season with wins against Moody and Shades Mountain Christian.
Trailing 14-11 to start the second quarter, Tomi Kate O’Neal nailed a three pointer to tie the game at 14. It was a fast pace throughout the quarter by both teams, with Leeds finally gaining the lead 21 – 20.
Both teams applied pressure on one another, forcing turnovers, the Lady Panthers capitalized on their turnovers, outscoring Leeds 6 – 2 to close out the first half and lead 26 – 23 at halftime.
O’Neal scored the first two points of the third quarter to pull the Lady Green Wave to within one point 26-25. Pell City outscored the Leeds 14 – 8 in the quarter to build a 10-point lead going in to the fourth quarter.
The Lady Green Wave sparked a 14 – 3 run to pull within one point 45 – 44. Leeds had five chances to take the lead but could not convert, allowing Pell City to hang on for the win.
O’Neal led the Lady Green Wave with 16 points, and Fucisha Stephens followed with 13.
