Taking Aktion for Moody schools

Fulfilling a mission of “service in action,” the Moody Challenged Adult Kiwanis Aktion Club is making things happen.  The Aktion Club provides opportunities for working together, fosters leadership potential, development of moral character as well as encourages dedication to community and the nation. Aktion Club Director Kay Hammett said, “We have a good time. We’ve got a good group. You’d be amazed at all they can do.”

Staying in tune with its community, the Aktion Club felt the need to help teachers at Moody Elementary School (MES). Gathering supplies such as paper towels, crayons, copy paper and pencils, the Aktion Club sought out to honor teachers in their local area.

MES counselor Joanna Spencer chose first-graders from Wendy Summers’ class to represent their teacher and school when receiving the school supplies. Smiling bright, the students thanked the Aktion Club before heading back to their classroom. Grateful for the Aktion Club thinking of MES, Spencer stated, “Thank you so much. Our teachers will really appreciate this.” Like the students, faculty and staff at MES, Aktion Club is about “Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.”

Started slightly over a year ago, the Aktion Club is a social club for adults with physical and/or mental challenges. The club meets at Whites Chapel Community Center in Moody on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. The group comes together to experience “fun, fellowship and friendship.”

Serving its community with a motto of “development has no disability,” the members of Aktion Club look forward to seeing you at upcoming events such as Oktoberfest and adding you to one of the club’s favorite things: its scrapbooks.

Through games, prizes, music, crafts and parties this service club is all about taking action.
