The city of Moody and St. Clair County are cooperating to make some much-needed improvements to A. E. Moore Drive in Moody.

During their regular council meeting Monday, the city approved the agreement with St. Clair County to perform the road’s paving and widening to 22 feet.

Financing will initially come from St. Clair County, with the city of Moody paying the debt back over the next five years.

A.E. Moore Drive services Alabama Auto Auction, which Moody attained after Leeds bought them out of the Cooperative District. Alabama Auto Auction has held $64,000 in business license fees as agreed upon in the buy-out agreement, which will be issued to Moody when the road is completed. In return, Moody will pay St. Clair County a $50,000 initial payment. After that, 20 percent of Alabama Auto Auction’s business license fee will be set aside to pay for the project until the balance is paid in full.

In other actions:

— A new bond agreement due to the restructuring of the Bass Pro Shops A-Series bonds wa approved.  Due to Regions Bank’s credit-rating downgrade, the city of Leeds is being reduced to a limited obligation instead of general obligation on the bonds, and the reclassification will also alleviate 25 percent of the city of Moody’s financial responsibility for the cost of the bonds.
