Hello, Pell City! The Pell City High School Class of 1945 held it’s 65th Class Reunion last Saturday at the Pell City Steak House.
Those attending the event were Ruth Brown, Thelma Thompson Crump and Pat Brown, Jessie Mae Manning and Annette Manning Hall, Betty Funderburg Byers and Laura Mann, Kittie Jean Adams, Ester Abbott Palmer, Gilbert and Pat Pope, Bo and Annie Peal Alverson, Howard Smith, and Helen Bain Purdy. Everyone had a fabulous time looking at old pictures and reminiscing about their days at PCHS.
The classmates were disappointed that Maxine Abbott, who had helped plan the reunion, was unable to make it due to having to go to the hospital but they hope she if feeling better.
A couple of years back I attended my 25th year class reunion for the PCHS Class of 1984 and I thought that was a huge deal, but it doesn’t seem like anything compared to a 65 year reunion!
The classmates also hope to do it again next year. Congratulations to Charles and Mary Ann Robinson who was honored last weekend with a reception for their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The event was held at Celebrations in Pell City and hosted by their sons, Charles Robinson, Jr., and Tommy Robinson, and their wives.
Judge Robinson recently announced his retirement from the bench, and we wish him the very best.
Last week I wrote about some of the history of Pell City and stated that the “Alexanders started Union State Bank”. To clarify, although the Alexanders have been involved with the bank for decades and Reed Alexander is the current president, Union State Bank was first established in 1903 and was originally called Bank of St. Clair County. It later became the First National Bank of Pell City, which in turn became Union State Bank and Sumter Cogswell, one of the founders of Pell City, was the first president of the Bank of St. Clair County.
Happy birthday this week to: Dean Scott, Jennifer Jones, Susan Howell, Jason Callahan, Melanie Isbell, Star Chance Willis, Holly Joiner, Dawn Wyatt, Matt Coleman, Brent Gossett, Kyle Barrentine, Dee Dee Edge Ward, Chase Lee, Cherri Hamlin, Tony Hamlin, Crystal Barnes, Rhonda Hazelwood Stewart, Wanda Foote, J.P. Slovensky, Brian Gossett, Pam Aldridge, and Martha Williams.
The first football game of the season for the Pell City Panthers will be held tomorrow night at Pete Rich Stadium against Shelby County.
The Panthers won their jamboree game last week against Grissom, 28 points to 6 points…Yea Panthers!
