An American stage classic, To Kill A Mockingbird, is being performed by the Pell City Players. The story of a small town in south Alabama in the 1930s, as seen through the eyes of a tomboy named Scout, has touched the hearts of generations. The novel follows Scout; her brother, Jem; and friend, Dill, as they try to make sense of the adult world, a world that turns from carefree to ominous when Scout’s father is asked to defend a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. It is set in the depression, a time of deep racial discrimination. Kathy McCoy, who directs the play, was also the director of the annual production held in Monroeville of To Kill a Mockingbird for 16 years, during which she toured the play nationally and internationally. This performance is being funded by a grant from the Support the Arts License Tag Committee.
