During their regular meeting, the Leeds City Council voted in favor of a resolution amending the $24 million bond issue in which the city of Leeds was guarantor on for the Bass Pro Shops. Councilmember Kenneth Washington was absent and Johnny Kile abstained from the vote.
The vote means the city of Leeds will no longer be held as the guarantor for the debt.
“It took a great deal of work on the part of so many including Regions Bank, (Councilmember) Earnest, the city’s attorneys and others to get this accomplished,” Mayor Eric Patterson said. “This releases Leeds from any responsibility as co-signers on the bond. That makes a huge difference looking toward our future as a city being released from this debt risk.”
