Cook Springs to keep Post Office

The United States Postal Service released an expanded access study list of post offices across the country that could be closed as a cost-saving measure for the struggling entity.

While the Cook Springs Post Office was on the initial lists as one to possibly be closed, it is no longer one of the 3,700 nationwide offices that are on the chopping block.

The United States Postal Service currently operates 32,000 retail offices, but approximately 35 percent of the Postal Service’s retail revenue comes from locations like grocery stores, drug stores, office supply stores, retail chains, self-service kiosks, ATMS and usps.com, no longer requiring a physical post office for many customers.

Representatives held a town hall meeting May 5 to discuss the possible impact of closing the post office, to which residents responded negatively.
