- Crews work to improve a natural gas line near Riverside Landing. Work is expected to begin this week on the gas pump at the docks, which will be a financial benefit for the town and an added convenience for people boating on the Coosa River for years to come.
Work was expected to begin this week on the gas pump at Riverside Landing. Summit of Birmingham submitted the sole bid of $25,500 for the project, which includes installing the new pump and purging the existing fuel tanks and lines.
The new pump, which will only accept payment by credit card and should be operational early next month, is paid for with local capital outlay funds, according to the mayor.
Thomas Bridges was awarded the lease of the boathouse at the landing after the town council accepted his sole bid of $3,500 to use the space for a shop offering bait and tackle, packaged food items, drinks, and ice to boaters.
Riverside has also bought two police patrol cars from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department for a total of $9,200. “We couldn’t afford to buy new ones, but hopefully these two cars will be all right for at least two more years,” Jessup said.
