There have been a lot fewer aching backs and muscles in the Leeds area over the past 20 years, thanks in large part to Dr. Alan Walch, who brought his chiropractic office to the city in 1991.

For two decades, Walch has combined a commitment to service with the latest in technology to ensure his patients receive the best possible care.

Walch’s office at 7713 Parkway Drive has become a mainstay in Leeds. He said he has stayed in Leeds for the same reasons he came here in the first place.

“I knew I wanted to be a small-town chiropractor,” he said. “Mr. mentor, Dr. Lett, advised me to find a community where the people were working and where you were needed. I was living in Vestavia Hills after graduating and after visiting Leeds and eating at the Depot, I knew this was where God wanted me to be.”

Walch graduated from Life College in Atlanta where he studied physiotherapies, radiology, impairment ratings, personal injuries, work-related injuries, whiplash studies, Alabama law and non-surgical disc treatments.

Walch said he feels he picked the perfect city for his practice – both from a community and a business standpoint.

“I have a great practice here. We have been getting new patients who are coming to Leeds to shop at the new businesses. I like the proximity to I-20 as several patients travel to see me from St. Clair County and Birmingham. But, what I appreciate most of all is that the people here are terrific and have always been welcoming. There is a real small-town charm about Leeds,” he said.

Walch uses state-of-the-art physiotherapy and diagnostic equipment, including spinal decompression traction, which is a non-surgical treatment for painful disc and other related conditions.

“I have used this treatment for years and most patients find it to be comfortable and relaxing. I have seen this treatment save patients from painful medical procedures and they recover from the effects of their injured disc,” he said.

After so many years in Leeds, Walch said he has developed unique, personal relationships with many of his patients.

“After 20 years in practice you begin taking care of the next generation of family and that is wonderful. Some of my patients are like family to me. When our son was born they brought gifts and food. At Christmas time, my desk is filled with baked goods. In return, I provide the spinal care they need to take care of their families,” he said.

For some, going to a chiropractor is a new experience.

“Someone recently asked me to tell them what to expect when they come in to see me and just what would I do to them,” he said.

Walch said he begins by having a patient complete a case history followed by an examination of the spine, including X-rays if necessary, and then he reviews those findings with the patient, including how chiropractic adjustments could help.

“The easiest way to understand it, is that when your vertebrae becomes misaligned or out of place, it causes pressure on nerves, which causes pain, and other symptoms. By performing an adjustment, it relieves the misalignment, removing the pressure from the nerve and goodbye pain!”

Walch said many customers are concerned about the costs of healthcare. But, he said his fees have not increased in years and that most insurance plans cover chiropractic care.
