Steven Seahorn will serve as the Moody Blue Devils' new head baseball coach.

Steven Seahorn believes some of the old clichés comparing sports to life.

As Moody’s new head baseball coach, he hopes to help his players see the same comparison.

“It’s amazing how much athletics, particularly baseball, translates into everyday life.  The best hitters only get on base four out of 10 times at bat.  Pitchers have good days and bad days.  You learn how to deal with getting the job done, and you learn how to deal with failure and what it takes to get over it.”

Seahorn is used to getting the job done.  A native of Steele, he graduated from Etowah High School, where he was a member of its 1996 state championship baseball team, and he helped coach the Ashville Bulldogs to their 2003 state title.  Formerly an assistant coach at Moody, he would like to see less of the failure side of the coin when the Blue Devils open their season at home against Shades Valley on Feb. 24.

The team was to begin practices this week, and one of Seahorn’s goals for the season is better results when the Blue Devils face Ashville, St. Clair County, Ragland, and Springville in the county tournament the first week in March.

“Moody is a great school, and the teams have always gotten tremendous support.  We have some talented kids here, and we want to give them to look back and think of this as one of the best experiences of their lives.  We want to prepare them for what’s next in their lives, whether that’s playing college ball or something else, and hopefully they’ll have some fun along the way.”
