A large benefit for the family of Stephen Williams will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Homestead Hollow.

Williams was tragically gunned down at a Montgomery apartment complex Oct. 13.

Williams worked at Homestead Hollow for five years, setting up and running the stages and helping out.

Terri Goforth, who helps run the Hollow, said when some of the performers found out what happened to Williams, they asked if they could put on a benefit for his family to help pay for funeral expenses.

As well as musical acts performing, there will be vendor booths, a silent auction, moonwalk and hayrides for kids and food vendors at Saturday’s event. “We’ve gotten some of the local companies to donate items for a silent auction; there’s just several people who loved Stephen who’ve got together to put this on.”

Goforth remembers Williams fondly. “He was totally, just sweet. He was a good kid. He was a friend of my daughter’s. Everybody seemed to know him. He was silly and fun. He was just a sweet guy.”

Admission Saturday is free, though there will be a charge for a moonwalk and hayride, while food vendors will charge for eats.

“Whatever money we get from the will all go to the family to help pay for funeral expenses,” Goforth said. “He was 23 and had no insurance. We just know what kind of person he was and he would have done the same (for someone else). His mama was his best friend—even on his Facebook page there’s a picture of him and her. If nothing else, it’s for him because he wouldn’t want her to go through something like this.”
