Local taekwondo students put their money where their fists are during a recent Break-A-Thon to benefit the Animal Shelter of Pell City and Children’s Hospital.
Sponsors pledged to pay a certain amount of money per board during the event, and a total of 800 boards were decimated by a group of 24 men, women and children at Celebrations in Cropwell.
Each student had one minute to break as many boards as possible. Some were able to break over one board per second. The school said it appreciates all the local businesses and individuals who provided door prizes, “goodie bags” and pizza for each participant.
Four students won grand prizes consisting of a Laptop computer (donated by Pell City TaeKwonDo), legal services valued at $500 (donated by Jennifer Sellers, Attorney at Law), two football tickets to Auburn’s Homecoming with UTC (donated by Alabama Home School) and 120 GB USB Hard Drive (donated by Computer Works).
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and is one of the most popular forms of martial arts in the world. Pell City Taekwondo provides an excellent fitness opportunity as well as positive motivation for participants of all ages.
