Meet Your Neighbor: Meagan Freeman

Meagan Freeman describes herself as outgoing, energetic, friendly and compassionate.

“I have smile wrinkles from smiling so much,” she said.  “I love meeting and helping people.”

That likely had a lot to do with why she was selected homecoming queen at Pell City High School last month.

“I was so excited.  It was really special because the whole student body voted on it, not just my class.  I was proud to be part of such a good group of girls on the court.”

A piano-playing aspiring broadcaster, Meagan recently discussed school, family, and other interests.

Her family:  Her parents are Christine and Randy Freeman.  She has one brother, Michael, a PCHS graduate, and a sister, Ann-Marie, who is a student at Duran South.   They attend Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

School activities:  Meagan serves as president of the senior class’ Student Government Association, co-captain of the Diamond Dolls, and a member of the Beta Club and Spanish Honors Society.  She was a member of the Lady Panthers varsity volleyball team, scoring 31 kills, 21 aces, 40 digs, 3 assists, and 2 blocks during her senior season.

Her GPA:  3.57.  She’s taking dual enrollment classes through Jefferson State Community College and plans to attend the University of Alabama.  “I’m undecided about my major, but I’m thinking about communications, with a minor in Spanish, then law school.  That’s the plan right now, and I don’t think it will change.”

Her favorite subject:  History, with a particular interest in the Holocaust.  “Ever since I read “The Hiding Place” in ninth grade, I’ve wanted to understand why so many people followed Hitler, how someone could be so charismatic, and how he could have so much influence that nobody could stand up and stop him.  I can’t even comprehend concentration camps and how someone could hate other human beings that much.  I would love to meet a Holocaust survivor.”

On her reading list:  She’s read the entire “Twilight” series three times, but names Dan Brown’s “Angels & Demons” as her favorite book.  “It’s amazing.  I watched the movie after I read the book and did not like it.  I don’t know how much of what’s in the book is true, but even if it weren’t true, I’d still like it.”
