A Pell City teenager died last Thursday morning after a  vehicle accident the previous evening.

17-year-old Karly Jean Meeks and a another 17-year-old female from Riverside were traveling in a pickup truck on Deer Trace Road just north of Pell City. The truck hit a tree on the passenger side.

Meeks, a student at Pell City High School was the passenger in the truck. She was was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in Birmingham. The 17-year-old driver was transported to the same hospital by paramedics.

Neither teenager was wearing a seatbelt, according to Alabama State Trooper’s Office.
