Green Wave cornerback Jonathan Rose ended months of speculation Sunday when he announced his commitment to Auburn.
“I made my mind up a couple of weeks before, but I was ready to go ahead and get it over before we started practice this week,” he said. “I feel like I have a great opportunity to play at Auburn.”
Rose’s announcement, made on CBS 42’s Inside Sports program, entitles him to a full scholarship to Auburn, where his father Charles played safety during the mid-‘90s. “It’s a family tradition to be an Auburn Tiger, and I wanted to follow that. My dad didn’t influence or pressure me. I came to the decision on my own, but he was happy.”
As one of the nation’s top prospects, Rose entertained offers from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State, and Mississippi State, among others. Having decided on Auburn, he said he’s focusing all his attention now on his senior season at Leeds.
“I feel very comfortable with my teammates, and all of us are going to be fighting for the same goal of a state championship. We’re trying to base everything this year off that ’08 season.”
His decision to attend Auburn came as the Green Wave was ranked at the top of Class 3A in preseason polls. “I’m not worried about a ranking. I’m worried about the end of the year and who they’re calling out for the Super Six.”
