More than 30 streets in Pell City will be repaved beginning this month, as part of a project that some members of the city council have said is long overdue.
McCartney Construction Company, Gadsden, is scheduled to begin work June 15 after being awarded a $2 million contract.
“This won’t solve the entire problem, but it will make a big stab at it,” said Councilwoman Dot Wood, who has sought the paving work for the past two years. Councilmen James McGowan and Greg Gossett have also been outspoken in pursuing the project.
According to Ms. Wood, some of the streets most in need of repair are in her district, which includes the mill village and parts of downtown and the lakefront. It is hoped that more streets can be added to the list of those already scheduled for repaving.
“It isn’t all we need, but (the $2 million) is all we have,” she said.
Some of the streets listed for resurfacing include: Sixth Avenue North, 32nd Street North, Dr. John Haynes Drive, 29th Street North, 30th Street North, Ninth Avenue, Second Avenue North, Comer Avenue, Hamilton Road, Ingram Lane, Wolf Creek Road North, Harmon Island Road, 10th Avenue South, 18th Place South, 17th Place South, 17th Street South, 16 Street South, 15th Street South, Sixth Avenue, McCoy Street, St. Paul Street, 15th Street North, Whitesville Road, Harris Street, White’s Drive, Greenfield Road, Rock Inn Point, 16th Avenue South, Ranch Marina Road, Pleasant Valley Drive, Sprayberry Road, First Place South, Dry Creek Road, and First Avenue South.
