The city of Moody received a Quality of Life Award in the population of 5,001 to 12,000 category for building the Miracle League Park — a baseball field for handicapped players.

The Moody City Council showed a video about the Miracle League, which opened in April 2003. About 250 players come from around the county to use the field.

“It’s an honor for the city,” Mayor Joe Lee said about the award.

Abbeville and Opelika also won Quality of Life awards.

Bob Clem talked to the council about street damage that has not been addressed, and Lee said someone would go look at the roads.

Shane Sharpe, co-owner of Sidelines Sports Academy, addressed the council and asked for a special exception to host an outdoor concert in the parking lot of Sidelines Sports Academy in Moody on June 5 at 5:30 p.m. The council approved his request, as long as it ended by 10 p.m.

“It’s a great idea,” Lee said.

Sharpe said the Christian concert would also have a crawfish boil to “bait and switch them (youth) a bit to come see a Christian concert.”

The concert will be used to reach out and affect the youth in the area. Christian artists, like rapper DPB, Already Ready and Ouiwee, will perform.

“This is going to be an opportunity to get together to hear the Word like you’ve never heard it before — through hip-hop, rap and rock,” Sharpe said.
