The Leeds Police Department, in cooperation with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, seized what they believe to be a methamphetamine lab on Anderson Street in Leeds on Monday afternoon.
Members of the Leeds Police Department and deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office conducted a search of a business on the 1500 block of Anderson Street based on information obtained by St. Clair County investigators. The information indicated that a meth lab, along with stolen vehicles and stolen firearms were on the premises, according to LPD officials.
The business is a garage operated by Michael A. Allen, 38, of Pell City, according to information provided by the LPD. Allen had an outstanding warrant from St. Clair County for illegal pseudoephedrine purchases and was arrested at the scene.
During an interview by officers, Allen consented to a search of the garage for contraband.
Another male, Shane L. Barber, 32, of Pell City, was also arrested at the scene when officers found what they believed to be methamphetamine in his possession, according to police.
Law enforcement officials conducted a thorough search of the business, finding what was described as a “shake and bake” meth lab. Officers also found a 1998 Chevy S-10 pick-up which had been partially disassembled. The vehicle had recently been reported stolen from I-20 in St. Clair County. Officials said the garage may have been operating as a “chop shop,” where vehicles were being disassembled and the parts sold.
Also during the search, officers found a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was reported stolen in Mississippi.
Along with the warrant, Allen faces charges of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance. Barber faces charges including unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
St. Clair County Deputies continue to investigate the recovered stolen vehicle and other recent vehicle thefts that may be associated with Allen and Barber.
Other charges are also possible as the investigation continues, according to officials.
