Suspect arrested in Moton murder

The Leeds Police Department has arrested a man in relation to a murder committed in Leeds on March 23.

Maurice Cosper, 42, of Leeds, was arrested on April 9 after investigators obtained a warrant on a capital murder charge.

The murder occurred on the 1600 block of Moton Street at approximately 9:45 p.m., according to officials with the Leeds Police Department. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Shaun Rose, a 30-year-old male of Vincent, who apparently had suffered a gunshot wound. Rose was pronounced dead on the scene by Leeds EMS personnel.

Members of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Detail executed the warrant and arrested Cosper.  Cosper was arrested in the 8100 block of Douglas Avenue in Cedar Grove Apartments.  

After the arrest, a search warrant was executed by Leeds Police Investigators at the apartment where Cosper was taken into custody. Officials indicated that evidence was seized from the apartment.  

LPD officials said the investigation continues and more arrests may follow. 

Cosper is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail.
