Ragland’s Purple Devils remain undefeated in area play following four weekend wins.
“This was a good way to go into spring break,” coach Rodney Lipscomb said. “We are 5-0 in the area, and we play another of the South’s powerhouses in J.U. Blacksher at home at 5 p.m. Friday.”
The 15-4 Purple Devils routed Sacred Heart Catholic, 10-0 and 12-2, on Saturday. Jacob Hollingsworth pitched a five-inning no-hitter and every Ragland batter had at least one hit in the shutout, and Cameron Hazelwood struck out five batters and gave up one hit to earn the win in the second game.
“Everyone got a chance to play, and everyone responded well,” Lipscomb said.
Ragland’s full roster also swept Jacksonville Christian Academy in two games on Friday, 17-6 and 17-4.
“The second game was like the first,” the coach said. “We took care of business. Austin Thornton pitched a great game, and Shane Phillips went two innings then Brad Barber and Landon Bice got their first mound appearances of their high school careers and did not give up a run.”
