Katie Compton scored three goals Monday afternoon, and Aliyah Bentley added two, leading the Pell City Lady Panthers to a 5-0 shutout against Oxford.  The win boosted Pell City to 3-3 in region standings and 5-4 overall.

Miss Compton also made two assists, and Miss Bentley and Tori Smith made one each.

The Compton-Bentley combination accounted for three of the Lady Panthers’ four goals against Gadsden on March.  Although holding Gadsden scoreless in the second half, Pell City’s two goals weren’t enough to overcome a 5-2 first-half deficit.

Miss Compton scored two goals and made two assists, while Miss Bentley added one of each.  Miss Smith contributed the Pell City’s other goal, and Lataste DuBose made one assist.

Oxford edged past the boys varsity team, 1-0, on Monday, dropping the Panthers to a region and overall record of 0-6.  The game was a scoreless tie through both halves, but Oxford made four kicks from the mark to Pell City’s three, earning the win.  Kicks from the mark are used to determine winners of tied region games.

Both Pell City varsity teams hosted Moody Tuesday afternoon, although results of both games were not available at the time of The News-Aegis’ sports deadline this week.
