The Moody Blue Devils boys tennis team was handed two losses by Shades Valley High School and Sylacauga High School last week.
On Tuesday, March 9, Moody took a 4-2 lead against 6A Shades Valley before the Mounties swept the doubles matches and won the meet, 5-4, despite victories in singles play by Moody’s Jay Patel, Zach Freeman, Jeromy McIntosh, and Tyler Watts.
Moody’s Lady Blue Devils team was shut out by Shades Valley, 9-0.
The Blue Devil boys lost another 5-4 decision to perennial powerhouse Sylacauga on Thursday, March 11.
A doubles win by Freeman and McIntosh, and three singles victories were highlights for Moody.
The Lady Blue Devils were also defeated by Sylacauga, in another 9-0 shutout.
“Sylacauga was a very frustrating loss for us,” said Moody tennis coach John Hughes. “The goal for our boys this year was to get to Mobile for the state championships, and to get there we had to go through Sylacauga. We can still get there, but this loss will make the journey harder.”
