Better access: Odenville Library gets software update

The Odenville Library has implemented a new web based software system which will offer many new features that will not only enhance circulation, but will allow library patrons the opportunity for self-service.
According to Library Director, Betty Corley, anyone can now access the library’s catalog, renew or reserve a book, write reviews of what they have read, or check to see if a specific book is in stock, all through the library’s website (www.odenlib.org).
Also, patrons can also see what services are offered by the library, find out how to get a library card and learn about upcoming programs and events.
This new system will provide a time savings for the patron, as well as provide the library staff with upgraded circulation software which will improve efficiencies and minimize cost.
Instrumental in getting the website and new system up and running, while working as the liaison with the staff at Biblionix, the company that developed the Apollo software being used, was library staff member, Penny Lake. Penny’s background as (in her words) the “resident computer geek”, along with her professional background as a program coder, provided the expertise to develop the website and successfully implement the new system. With Penny’s experience, the library saved on the cost of hiring an outside web page developer and computer programmer.
And, since the web based system was purchased from a company specializing in, and understanding, the needs of small to medium size library systems, further cost savings were met.
The Odenville Library will continue to improve on their services, especially as circulation continues to increase. In the meantime, check out the website www.odenlib.org, or stop by the library, located at 200 Alabama Street, across from the Odenville Town Hall.
