Extension offering variety of educational workshops

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s St. Clair County office will offer the following adult educational workshops:

1. Parenting Savers University (PSU)-Thursdays, February 18th, 25th and March 4th from 6-7 p.m. at Moody High School. This is a program geared toward building family strengths. It features interactive parenting programming that addresses and provides resource information on various parenting issues. Come join other parents/guardians in learning as well as lending your experiences at PSU. Free take-home publications packets will be available for registered attendees. Topics to be covered include: Parent-Child Connection; Couple Relationship; Discipline/Difficult Behaviors; Communication; Family Strength Building; Stress Management/Conflict Resolution; Step-Families/Parenting After Divorce-Dual-Household Parenting. 2. Organic Gardening Workshop-Friday, March 5th from 9 a.m-12 p.m. at Jefferson State Community College, Pell City campus, Room 101. Fee is $5 per person, which covers materials and refreshments. This workshop will discuss the challenges and techniques successful organic farmers and gardeners have used. Some of these techniques are ones your great grandfather used before modern chemicals were developed and some are as new as the latest high tech gadget the kids are using today. 3. Food Preservation Workshop-Thursday, May 6th from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. AND 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the St. Clair County Extension office, Suite 103, located in the St. Clair County Courthouse in Pell City. Cost is FREE. This workshop will teach you how to save money by learning how to preserve your own foods at home. Pre-registration deadline is April 28th. Class limit: 20. 4. Rain Gardening Workshop-Friday, May 14th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Jefferson State Community College, Pell City campus, Room 101. Fee is $5 per person, which covers materials and refreshments. Come learn about gardening with a purpose in this introductory class on rain gardening. Rain gardens are ecologically designed gardens for drought, deluge and everything in between. They are perfect for Alabama weather. Pre-registration deadline is May 5th. Class limit: 60. Instructor: Tony Glover, Regional Extension Agent
