The Moody Police Department, along with the City of Moody and the Moody Fire Department, closed the case surrounding the water tower vandalism at Moody’s Commerce Park last week and approved disbursement of $1,000 in reward money.
Mayor Joe Lee said three teenagers admitted to the graffiti and will spend their spring break cleaning up the mess.
Three teenage boys from the Moody, Pell City area confessed to the vandalism, which included spray paint graffiti on the water tank, pump house and surrounding buildings. The incident took place on December 28.
Officials said a tip led to the identity of one of the teens just days after a $1,000 reward was offered for the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The other teens came forward just a few days later, officials reported.
The city does not have plans to prosecute the boys, but they have been ordered to spend their spring break repairing the damage. Mayor Lee said the boys have also been ordered to pay for the supplies needed for the clean up and the reward money.
Officials said the teenagers said they were bored at the time of the incident, adding that they will not be bored during their spring break. Members of the Moody Fire Department will supervise them as the clean up takes place.
