The Ashville Bulldogs advanced to round two of the St. Clair County basketball tournament Tuesday night with a win over Ragland, 58-45.

The two teams had played a few days earlier in a regular season match up at Ragland, where Ashville won by eight points.

The Purple Devils played well in the opening quarter as Jacob Hollingsworth and Colton Echols each knocked down a three pointer giving Ragland a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

An Alex Farmer trey midway through the second quarter brought the Bulldogs within one, 17-16, and from there Ashville built a 35-25 lead at the break.

The second half was all Bulldogs as they fought off the Purple Devil rallies and picked up the 13 point win.

Leading Ashville was Cortney Williams with 24 points, Farmer with 15 and Kevin Montgomery with seven.

For the Purple Devils, John Arnold scored 15, Echols scored ten and Hollingsworth chipped in eight.
